Venezuelan Concertmaster and Local Pianist Perform Spectacular Program
The Florida College Life Enrichment Series presented violinist Alfonso Lopez and pianist Michelle Tabor in recital on Monday, September 24, at 8:00 p.m. in Puckett Auditorium. They treated the audience to spectacular performances of works for violin and piano by Mozart, Turina, Saint-Saens, Sarasate, and more. Photos from the Event
About the PerformersAlfonso Lopez is concertmaster of the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra which, as the national symphony, is the oldest and one of the major orchestras of the country. He is also a professor of violin and founding member of the string quartet at the Emil Friedman School, the outstanding private institution in the country founded in 1949 by Friedman, a Czech violinist and conductor. Mr. Lopez received his high school diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, and then completed a B.A. and M.A. in music from the University of Michigan. He received advanced musical training in Austria and England. Mr. Lopez is also well-known as a composer and a conductor. He has concretized in Spain, Italy, the U.S., Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago. He has performed with Michelle Tabor in the U.S. and Venezuela since 2004. Michelle Tabor holds B.F.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in piano and theory from Tulane University, the University of Denver and Florida State University respectively. For several years after graduating, she performed recitals with a number of violinists at FSU. She also pursued her research interests in Latin American art music of the twentieth century. She presented lecture/recitals and research papers for the College Music Society, the American Musicological Society and an international conference on Latin American Music in Chicago, Illinois. Since 2000 she has concentrated more on performing, touring regularly with Venezuelan flutists and violinists. She has performed with Alfonso Lopez in the U.S. and Venezuela since 2004. Ms. Tabor grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, and now lives in Tallahassee, Florida. |
