Kevin Hyde

If you need a good lawyer, call Kevin Hyde.

Hyde came to FC in 1981 and graduated with his AA degree in 1983. He chose the College in large part because of family tradition, but “it was certainly the desire of both parties to go,” he said.

For his undergraduate work Hyde transferred to the University of South Florida, mostly to remain in Tampa and near his friends. He then went on to graduate from the law school at the University of Florida (“the best law school in Florida”).

Now he is the managing partner at the Foley & Lardner law firm in Gainesville, and a member of the Jacksonville City Council. He is also an elder at the Lake Shore church of Christ.

FC provided “a good liberal arts education,” Hyde said. “In the practice of law you survey a lot of different areas.” Because his education at FC was “more about learning to study and to think, as opposed to any particular area,” the transition to his other undergraduate studies and into law school was very comfortable.

“I found that [FC] prepared me well for the professional world,” Hyde said. He lauded the school for its individual attention and small class sizes. “If you’re interested in studying,” he said, “it’s impossible to get lost.”

Hyde counts himself very fortunate to be in his current career. “I’ll probably try to continue in elected office,” he said of the future. “It would be fun to serve in Congress someday.”
