Building a Career of Care: Harrison Provines’ (’23) Journey in Nursing

January 12, 2026 | 1-2 min read

From the moment he stepped into Florida College’s nursing program, Harrison Provines knew nursing would be more than just a career, it would be his calling to serve others through faith and compassion. In May 2023, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and now works as the Clinical Nurse Coordinator at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, primarily working at the HCA University Freestanding Emergency Room. As a charge nurse, Provines manages a team of nurses on 12-hour shifts, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed in the fast-paced world of emergency medicine. Although his role centers on leadership, he remains deeply connected to patient care.

“I still participate in patient care, but that’s not my primary role now,” he explained. “My focus is making sure my team has what they need to succeed, especially during the really busy times.”

Provines’ journey is far from complete. Currently enrolled in a Family Nurse Practitioner Master’s program, he expects to graduate in September 2026. His long-term goals are clear and ambitious to serve as a medical provider in the emergency department and eventually open his own family practice specializing in pediatric medicine. This dedication to lifelong learning and patient-centered care reflects the strong foundation laid during his time at Florida College.

When reflecting on his education, Provines credits Florida College for shaping him both professionally and spiritually.

“FC’s nursing program prepared me well for my job by engaging me in classes that focused on nursing leadership and supporting one another as fellow nurses,” he shared. “They teach a standard of professionalism and dignity that isn’t found in most nursing schools. Their perspective of teaching from spiritual values and letting that guide our nursing practice is the main reason my fellow classmates and I have been so highly valued by our employers.”

For Provines, this Christ-centered approach wasn’t just a classroom lesson, it became a personal calling.

“The program helped to cultivate a sense of appreciation and responsibility while we have another person’s life in our hands,” he said. “Our goal was to serve Christ and use  nursing as a way to do that.”

One of Provines’ fondest memories from the program was the close-knit community within his small 12-student cohort.

“The difficulty of the classes forced us to study a lot together, and we pushed each other to succeed because of how close we were,” he recalled.

He also praised the program’s approachable professors, who were always ready to listen and help. The environment of closeness and care shaped the kind of nurse Provines is today, one who leads with compassion, integrity, and faith. Whether managing an emergency room team or preparing to become a family nurse practitioner, Provines continues to live out the values instilled in him at Florida College: to serve others with excellence and to honor Christ in all he does.
