Adopt Student Spotlight: Mackenzie Barrier

Adopt student Mackenzie Barrier understands the value of the Florida College community. A senior from Hartselle, Ala., Mackenzie will graduate spring 2027 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in music. But her FC story didn’t begin until 2025, when she transferred from the University of Alabama.

“My mom passed away in December 2024, and my whole life turned upside down,” she explained. “I thought I should keep turning it.”

The oldest of six, Mackenzie learned about Florida College from a high school friend attending FC, and booked a flight to Tampa the next weekend. Now, she’s trying to convince her siblings to follow in her footsteps.

“My dad came for parents’ weekend and said he was so happy I’m here,” she recalled. “I wasn’t happy with where my life was going without this Christian community.”

Since arriving, Mackenzie has joined Phi Sig and participated in Woven and Sower’s events, and credits the Adopt program for her life-changing experience.

“Community is the number one thing that’s so different at FC,” she said. “Everyone cares so much here, it’s beautiful to see how the love of Christ shines. After what I’ve been through it’s a breath of fresh air to have people in my corner who want the best for me.”

By giving to the Adopt Program, you can help student like Mackenzie have an FC experience.
