Mathematics Education

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education prepares our graduates to share their passion for teaching math to teenagers in middle and high school. Upon graduation, this degree prepares students to apply for state certification and begin seeking teaching opportunities for this in-demand position.

Students will experience and study foundational teaching skills while growing in their knowledge of mathematics. Each will receive hands-on experience prior to graduation in an internship.

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education at Florida College prepares students to teach math confidently and effectively in grades 6-12. Combining a strong foundation in advanced mathematics with practical teaching experience, the program equips future educators with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to thrive in today’s classrooms. Through a blend of coursework and hands-on learning, students will explore how to teach mathematical concepts, manage classrooms efficiently, and support diverse learners, all from a faith-based perspective that emphasizes character and service.

Bachelor of Mathematics Career Opportunities

Middle School Math Teacher: Teach fundamental math skills and build students’ confidence during a formative stage. The program prepares individuals with deep mathematical knowledge and the classroom strategies to connect with younger learners.

Instructional Coach or Math Specialist: Support other teachers by sharing strategies, analyzing curriculum, and improving math instruction school-wide. This degree lays a strong foundation for leadership in math education.

High School Math Teacher: Help students master algebra, geometry, and precalculus as they prepare for college. The program equips individuals with subject mastery and certification readiness.

Private Tutor or Educational Consultant: Provide personalized math support to students or consult with schools and programs. The hands-on experience gained at Florida College gives individuals a professional edge.

Graduate School or Advanced Certification: The program provides a rigorous academic base for those interested in pursuing a master’s degree in education, math, or educational leadership.
