A Daily Pause That Shapes A Lifetime

How Morning Chapel Unites The Florida College Community And Centers Each Day On Christ

One of the most unique and cherished traditions at Florida College is daily chapel. Every morning, the bells in Hutchinson Auditorium ring, calling everyone on campus to gather for a few moments of worship and reflection. This purposeful meeting refocuses hearts and minds amid the busyness of college life, connects students and faculty, and creates lasting habits that encourage Christ-like living.

Chapel begins with the entire Florida College campus settling into the auditorium as voices rise together in hymns, a short devotional rooted in Scripture and a prayer. These few moments serve as a reset, quieting the noise of the day and directing attention to the things that matter most. As students prepare for classes, assignments, and activities, chapel offers a pause to remember the higher purpose behind it all. It’s a chance to carry a Christ-centered mindset into all parts of the day, from classes to society sports and everything in between.

For alumna Tania Groen (‘16), chapel remains one of the most meaningful experiences from her years at Florida College.

Beyond personal reflection, chapel is an opportunity for a deeper connection. It’s one of the only times the entire student body gathers with faculty and staff. Worshipping side by side cultivates a sense of unity across campus. Florida College staff who attend chapel demonstrate their genuine care for spiritual growth, as well as academic progress. For students, chapel also offers a chance to cross paths with peers they may not interact with otherwise, building relationships across different years, degrees, and interests.

The devotional portion of chapel rotates among faculty and admin, many of whom share insights drawn from scripture and lived experience. Every Monday, guest speakers, often local preachers or alumni, bring words of encouragement to the student body. On Fridays, students themselves step forward to lead. This provides an opportunity for students to grow in confidence, use their gifts, and encourage one another through worship. Over time, the daily rhythm of chapel instills habits of focus and purpose as students set aside time to think about Christ and how they can be better followers of Him. This practice shapes students long after they graduate and leave campus.

Chapel reflects the heart of Florida College. It is a reminder that each day is more than just the tasks and activities it holds. It is about becoming the kind of person who can live out their faith with purpose, integrity, and love. For generations, this morning tradition has helped form students who go on to serve faithfully in their homes, churches, and communities. Today, it continues to guide each new class toward lives anchored in Christ.
