Ashlin Patterson’s (’23) Christ-Centered Care in Nursing and Her Community

Ashlin (Morris) Patterson (’23) is using her hands and heart to serve others as a registered nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky, drawing daily on the foundation of service, faith, and compassion she gained at Florida College.

As a member of Florida College’s inaugural nursing class, Ashlin graduated in the spring of 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Looking back, she described the opportunity as “one of life’s greatest blessings.”

“Nursing is a job of service and sacrifice, much like the life of Christ,” she said. “From the classroom, to clinical settings, we were reminded daily of passages like Philippians 2:3-4 and 1 Peter 4:10; to use our gifts and talents to serve others.”

Now working with post-op patients and their families, Ashlin leans on those values every day.

“FC helped prepare me to practice safe and high-quality nursing through critical thinking,” she said. “To listen to your patient and to always be their voice and advocate and to treat every patient as if he or she were your own family member.”

Ashlin says that outside of the classroom, extracurricular activities were a crucial part of her FC experience, giving her opportunities to grow and lead alongside her peers.  While at FC, she served the student body in various leadership roles in student organizations, including treasurer of SBGA and vice president of the Health Science Club.

Today, Ashlin and her husband Grant are continuing to build a life of service in Kentucky, where Ashlin serves as president of the Western Kentucky Hutchison Bell chapter and helps lead efforts with Sacred Selections.

“Adoption holds a special place in my heart, and I am so thankful for this organization that helps place children into godly, loving homes,” she said.

Ashlin’s journey from the classroom to the PACU, from campus clubs to community leadership, reflects a life rooted in service, compassion, and faith. With each patient she comforts and each cause she supports, she continues the work she began at Florida College: using her gifts to bless others and reflect the heart of Christ in all she does.
