Marketing student Maecy Smith and finance student Jenna Vincent were invited by Lake Michigan Credit Union to participate in the 2025 Women in Leadership & Philanthropy Fall Symposium, recognizing them as emerging women in business. The event, held Wednesday, October 8, at the Tampa Marriott on Water Street, featured keynote speakers, a panel discussion, a luncheon and dynamic networking opportunities.
Hosted by the USF Foundation’s Women in Leadership & Philanthropy program, the symposium provides a powerful platform for professional growth and connection among women in business and nonprofit leadership. This year’s keynote speaker, Geena Davis, delivered an inspiring message on empowerment, leadership and philanthropy in today’s business environment. A panel of accomplished women leaders followed, sharing personal experiences, lessons learned and strategies for success.
For Smith and Vincent, the invitation was both an honor and an opportunity. Representing Florida College among established professionals and rising talent, they gained valuable exposure to industry leaders, engaged in meaningful conversations during the panel, and built new connections throughout the luncheon and networking sessions.
As Smith put it, “It was amazing to learn from women who have achieved sky-high goals. They spoke to over one thousand women about how we can communicate confidently and clearly, embrace lifelong learning and use our resources to empower others. I am grateful to Mrs. Nicole Feilder from LMCU for inviting us—this experience was truly impactful and motivating.”
Experiences like the Women in Leadership & Philanthropy Symposium give students the chance to learn directly from accomplished professionals, build meaningful community relationships, and see what leadership looks like beyond the classroom and reflects Florida College’s commitment to investing in the professional development of its business students who want to lead in their fields.
