Engineering the Future: Ben Christian (’27) Gains Hands-On Experience at Aerosonic

Ben Christian (’27), a mechanical engineering student, is already turning classroom knowledge into real-world impact. Through his internship as a Test Engineer Intern at Aerosonic, Ben is building a strong foundation for a future in engineering.
Rather than working behind a desk, Ben spends much of his time in shop and lab environments, testing avionics equipment using wind tunnels, electrical systems, and specialized software. This hands-on experience allows him to directly apply concepts from the classroom to real engineering challenges. He especially enjoys using system optimization skills to improve testing processes, collaborating with his team, and expanding his knowledge of electricity and circuit boards.
“The thing I enjoy most about my internship is applying the system optimization skills I have learned while in school to build better systems surrounding the tests we do at Aerosonic,” Ben shared.
Ben credits his coursework at FC in electronics, physics, and thermodynamics for preparing him for his role. These classes, along with guidance from his professors, have given him both the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed. Beyond technical skills, he emphasizes that his education has also shaped his character, equipping him with values that guide how he approaches teamwork and challenges with integrity.
Equally meaningful to Ben are the relationships he has built. Studying alongside fellow engineering students has created a strong sense of community. Long hours of studying and problem-solving together have formed bonds he describes as family, providing support throughout his academic journey.
Outside the classroom, Ben serves as an officer in the Future Leaders in Technology and Engineering (FLiTE) club, where he helps organize events and foster community among engineering students. This involvement has strengthened his leadership and collaboration skills, further preparing him for his future career.
Looking ahead, Ben is particularly interested in automotive mechanics, with a desire to design or work on engines and thermodynamic systems. While he remains open to future opportunities, his passion for this field continues to grow.
Through dedication, hands-on experience, and strong relationships, Ben is making the most of his time as an engineering student. Whether in the classroom, lab, or community, he continues to grow as both an engineer and a leader, preparing for a promising future in the field.
