FC Alum Giving Back to the Florida College CommunityThrough Camps

When Stacey Beutjer (’17) stepped foot on Florida College’s campus, she had a clear goal of becoming an engineer. She was drawn to FC not only for its ability to prepare her academically, but also for the opportunity to be surrounded by peers who prioritized their relationship with Christ. During her time at FC, Beutjer embraced both aspects, excelling in her classes while actively engaging in campus life and extracurriculars, including serving as a Camp Friend.

After graduating from Florida College, Beutjer continued her studies in civil engineering and eventually moved to Georgia, where she accepted a position as a roadway designer for the Department of Transportation. In this role, she creates detailed plans for everything from intersections to roundabouts. When asked about her job, she commented on how much she enjoys the variety and flexibility her role provides.

“Transportation includes all aspects of civil engineering, like construction, planned development, and environmental considerations. I wanted to try something broad, then settle into an area I thought would be good for me.”

Despite a full-time career, Beutjer dedicates time each summer to volunteer at not just one, but two Florida College camps.

Her involvement with FC camps began early. She started attending Georgia Camp the summer after fifth grade and later added Alabama Camp to her routine during her junior year of high school. While at Florida College, she was selected as a Camp Friend and served at four camps that summer. Since then, she has returned year after year as a counselor to both Georgia and Alabama Camp.

“It’s so wonderful to spend that amount of time disconnecting, to focus on God and grow our relationships,” Beutjer said. “I love the environment that camp cultivates. You can’t replicate it any other place.”

For Beutjer, camp is more than just a summer tradition; it’s an opportunity to mentor young Christians and help them build the support systems she knows are so important. At Georgia Camp, she works with first-time campers, while at Alabama Camp, she spends most of her time with the high school girls. She especially enjoys watching campers form lasting friendships with others who share their faith. She noted that these relationships often carry into college, as many go on to attend FC themselves.

Stacey Beutjer’s path from Florida College student to civil engineer reflects a balance of purpose and passion. As she continues to grow in her career, she remains committed to investing in the people and places that shaped her life. Beutjer’s story demonstrates the lasting influence of Florida College, seen not only in her profession but also in her dedication to guiding the next generation through serving at camps.
