Florida College Mourns Death of Longtime Board Member, Steve Wilsher

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of longtime Board Member, Steve Wilsher. Steve passed away April 10, 2022 at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Steve (’73) and his wife Marsha (Belzer) (’74) are both alumni of Florida College College as are their two daughters, Mandy (’96) married to Luke Fielding (’97) and Alexis (’00) married to Matthew Bennett. Steve and Marsha’s love began on our campus and blossomed into 48 years of loyal devotion to each other in a marriage that was a beautiful reflection of Christ and His church.

Through the years, Steve and Marsha shared a great passion for supporting Florida College and helping young people to have the life-changing Florida College experience. They were active in the Adopt program, the Scholarship Partner Fund, and numerous named endowed funds.

In 2000, Steve was appointed to the Board of Directors of the College. He served selflessly on that voluntary Board for the last 22 years. For many of those years he served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Assistant Treasurer. He was honored by the Board of Directors as Director Emeritus upon his retirement from the Board earlier this semester in recognition of his dedicated service to Florida College. At the 2022 Lectures, Steve and Marsha were honored with the Friend to Youth Award.

Steve was also a successful businessman. He started a software development company, TekSouth in his home basement in 1982. Through the Lord’s blessings, the business grew, and he was able to build an office building and hire many employees. When the Iron Curtain fell in 1989, he also created a candy company in Russia, so he would have a reason to go into Russia to spread the gospel. From that beginning, he became actively involved in efforts to spread the gospel in other parts of the world, particularly in Ethiopia and Mozambique. Marsha was Steve’s biggest supporter in all his efforts, both in evangelism and benevolence. They always felt the need to support Christians at home and abroad.

We grieve with the family in their loss and rejoice with them in his victory in Christ Jesus. Steve will be sorely missed, but his works live on after him.
