Josh Vaughn (’24) came to Florida College seeking more than a degree. He wanted an education grounded in Christ and a community shaped by shared values. Graduating in 2024 with a degree in organizational communication, Josh now carries that foundation into a career built on teamwork, responsibility, and purposeful work.
After earning his CDL certification, Josh accepted a position with PowerGrid Services, a lineman contractor for Duke Energy. His day-to-day work involves serving on a small crew that inspects and repairs electrical lines. It is hands-on, demanding work that requires clear communication, trust, and problem-solving.
“My degree at Florida College prepared me to lead, communicate, and be creative with certain challenges I face in my role,” Josh shared. “I am thankful for the experience that I gained in the classroom that now translates into the work force.”
One of the most meaningful parts of Josh’s experience was the relationship he built with faculty. The personal investment of professors left a lasting impression on his life.
“One of my favorite aspects of the academic experience at FC were the professors,” Josh explained. “I doubt there are any other colleges where professors pray for you, invite you into their homes, and attend church services with you. The professors love you and genuinely want what is best for you.”
That support continues even after graduation. “This does not end when you graduate either,” he added. “Several professors still reach out and communicate with me to this day. It is very unique and special.”
Florida College shaped Josh not only academically, but personally and spiritually.
“Florida College helped shape me as a whole person,” he reflected. “Florida College helped me create my own identity and build a strong foundation through the lens of the scripture.”
Looking ahead, Josh hopes to continue advancing within the lineman industry, eventually stepping into leadership.
“My goal is to work my way into the union side of the Lineman industry and use my degree to become a project manager where I would oversee different contractors,” he shared.
As he continues to grow in his career, Josh remains grounded in the values formed at Florida College.
“Florida College taught me to work hard, live intentionally, and serve others with purpose—values I apply daily in both my work and personal life.”
