No matter what career you pursue, good communication is vital to success. At Florida College, Bachelor of Arts in Communication students have the opportunity to practice useful skills that apply to all career fields in an intimate, biblically-grounded environment. With classes ranging from Advanced Public Speaking to Writing for the Communication Professions—not to mention an internship component—B.A. in Communication students graduate with the communication skills needed to pursue an industry job or excel in another career.
All students working towards a bachelor’s degree in communications will receive hands-on experience through an internship. Experiential learning opportunities include extra-curricular options like the Oratory Union and Royal Palm Yearbook, as well as opportunities to interact with leading and highly innovative local employers in the thriving Tampa Bay business community.
As part of the B.A. in Communication program, students can select classes within the communication curriculum to prepare them for a career in mass media. Classes such as Visual Communication and Production, History and Literacy of Cinema, Mass Communication and Society, Advanced Audio Production and more are available to students wishing to pursue this specialization.
In the Florida College communication department, communication courses are designed to create an appreciation for communication theory and practice, to develop communication skills and techniques such as persuasion and relational maintenance, and to promote best practices within the communication arts and sciences. Courses are designed to meet curriculum needs and the needs of those desiring to enter schools of advanced standing leading to a degree in the communication discipline.
With the Communication department, we place a strong emphasis on experiential learning for bachelor’s in communications candidates.
The Oratory Union offers a program of debate and argumentation that is open for all students to audition. Students compete with other college and university students on the local, state and national level in several different categories of competition, such as extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation, and debate, honing their communication and presentation skills.
The Royal Palm is Florida College’s yearbook, produced by our students with the aid of an advisor. The staff consists of three teams: copy, photo, and design. Applications open once every summer for incoming and returning students.
All students studying to complete a bachelor’s degree in communication will receive hands-on experience before graduation in an internship. Students put the skills they have acquired into practice, propelling their career path forward.
