February 10, 2022
Craig Hodges, Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. John Weaver as the sixth president of Florida College.
“Dr. John Weaver will be an outstanding leader for Florida College.” said Hodges. “He has a broad base of experiences that will serve the College well and will continue to lead the College in fulfilling its mission to educate the whole person to imitate Christ in service to God and the world”.
Dr. Weaver was awarded his undergraduate degree Summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Weaver received an MA degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, an MLIS degree from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. degree from Emory University. He has been a professor and senior administrator at several institutions over his 18-year career, also preaching and serving as a deacon in churches of Christ throughout this time. Weaver has served as the Academic Dean at Florida College since January 2020.
Weaver has a rich heritage with Florida College. Following in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents, one of whom is James R. Cope, the second president of Florida College, Weaver was accepted into the Upper Division Bible program in the mid-90s. He currently has a daughter in her freshman year at Florida College.
“I am grateful to be chosen as the sixth president of Florida College,” said Dr. Weaver. “As president, I can assure you that the college will remain firm to its foundation, allegiant to Jesus Christ, submissive to the pattern of sound teaching in the Holy Scriptures and committed to educating youth for service to God and neighbor.”
John is married to Vivi (Washburn), an FC alum. The couple have five children, Josephine, Adela, Thessaly, Eben and Vionna.
Weaver will assume the presidency of Florida College on June 1, 2022.
