Florida College hosts the 42nd Christian College Choral Festival Concert

November 18, 2022

Florida College will host the 42nd Christian College Choral Festival Concert on January 6th, 2023 at 7pm at the University of South Florida campus.

Hundreds of singers from colleges and universities including Harding University, Freed-Hardeman University, Faulkner University and Florida College will come together for a performance. This is the first time ever Florida College has hosted this special event.

“The Florida College Chorus began participating in this event in 2015 and has traveled to Harding University, Abilene Christian University and Faulkner University. It is a tremendous opportunity for the students to meet and to perform together and for one another. It reinforces the work they are doing and love for choral music,” said Dr. Jon Bassett, Director of the Florida College Chorus.

The students will rehearse for two days with guest clinician, Derrick Fox, Director of Choral Activities and Distinguished Associate Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The event will end with a free concert, where each group will perform a set of musical selections on their own before concluding the evening with a combined performance led by Fox. Repertoire for the combined numbers includes “Non Nobis,” “Signs of the Judgement,” “My Spirit Looks to God Alone,” “Am Neujahrstage” and “Alleluia.”

“I am particularly excited to host this event in the beautiful USF concert hall and have my friend and fellow Arkansas State Alumnus Derrick Fox here to direct the students. He is one of the most sought after clinicians and music advocates of our time and we are excited for him to work with our students,” said Bassett.

The Christian College Choral Festival began in 1966 as an annual event, and then biannually since 1997.

Tickets will be $5 and open to the community, but must be reserved ahead of time.
