Leece Hall’s (’18) Pathway to Patient Care

Florida College’s community is distinctively shaped by a shared faith, giving students the opportunity to grow spiritually during some of their most formative years. When she enrolled as a freshman, Leece Hall (‘18) was drawn to that environment and the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually.
During her time at FC, Hall quickly became immersed in campus life. She played volleyball, participated in societies, and formed close friendships through the rhythms of daily life. Academically, she pursued a liberal studies degree with a focus on health and behavioral science. Though she had always been interested in the medical field, learning from Christian professors gave her a new perspective, deepening both her faith and her curiosity.
“Having professors like Todd Chandler and Gary Wileman grew my love for science and helped me see my field in a different light,” Hall said.
After graduating in 2018, Hall began working in oncology as a clinical trial coordinator. While the role allowed her to contribute to meaningful medical work, she soon realized she wanted to be more directly involved in patient care. That desire became personal through a friendship she formed with a woman from church who was undergoing treatment. As their relationship grew, Hall found herself wishing she could do more to help.
“I could only do so much,” she said. “I wanted to have a more hands-on role in her care.”
That experience became a turning point, leading Hall to pursue physician assistant (PA) school at Samford University, where she graduated in 2024. Today, she works in pediatric gastroenterology, caring for patients ranging from infants to young adults. Her role is both fast-paced and deeply relational, requiring her to spend time with families, consult with physicians, and provide clarity and reassurance during stressful moments.
“I get to sit with the kids and explain things in a way they understand,” she said. “That one-on-one time is really important and is a key part of my job.”
Alongside her work in medicine, Hall also cultivated a creative outlet through videography, a skill she turned into a source of income during PA school. While medicine and videography may seem like two very different paths, she has learned there is room to pursue both with intention.
“I used to feel like I had to choose one or the other,” she said. “But you don’t have to be just one thing, you can be a little bit of both.”
That perspective took time to develop. At first, Hall hesitated to fully pursue either path, uncertain of where each might lead. Over time, she came to understand that success does not require having everything figured out. Sometimes, it simply begins with a willingness to take the first step.
“Success is starting,” she said. “It’s taking the leap and trusting that God will take care of the rest.”
Now established in her career, Hall continues to carry that mindset forward, investing in her patients, growing in her field, and making space for her creative gifts. She encourages students to confidently pursue their interests, trust God with the outcome, and recognize that growth often begins by simply taking the first step.
