Turning Pages Abroad: Malachi Darling (’18) Pursues Career in London

Florida College provides students with an education that can carry them anywhere—even to the heart of London. For Malachi Darling (’18), that journey began his freshman year as he pursued a double major in History and Biblical Studies. Initially drawn to archaeology, he shifted his path after his junior year. Through many conversations with his advisor at FC, librarianship emerged as a natural fit, blending his love for research and history.
With that focus, Darling graduated from FC and continued his education in archival studies. After earning a specialized degree and completing an internship at Everglades National Park, he returned to Florida College to join the Chatlos Library staff. There, he supported organization and student interaction.
“The college gave a lot to me while I was a student,” Darling said. “As a faculty member, I had the opportunity to give back.”
After three years in the library, Darling sought a new perspective on librarianship. He moved to London to pursue a Master of Arts in History of the Book, a field that studies books by their construction, usage, and context—adding rich layers to their history. The program built seamlessly on the skills he had first developed during his undergraduate years at FC.
While pursuing his master’s degree, Darling stayed connected to his alma mater through the Hutchinson Bell Young Alumni Council. As part of the inaugural cohort, he helped launch the program by organizing book clubs and meetups, and later focused on identifying new leaders and practices to ensure its growth.
Reflecting on his journey, Darling expressed gratitude for the people who invested in him as a student and for the Christian environment that shaped him during his years in the library. His dedication to learning, growth, and service stands as a testament to Florida College alumni making an impact around the world.
