Music and Fine Arts Department

The music and fine arts department at Florida College provides the opportunity for individual and group self-expression. The stimulation and enjoyment derived from the arts springs from study, self-examination and criticism, discipline, knowledge of other disciplines, and a desire to achieve excellence.

The music and fine arts department has four primary goals:

To be an artistic presence on the campus and to share the rich heritage of great music with students, faculty and community.

To expose students to and involve them with the creative process through the arts, to heighten students’ sensitivity to themselves and others, and to introduce them to a broad range of the arts.

To develop an understanding of the arts, impart knowledge of the arts and increase skills by means of courses offered within the framework of the liberal arts.

To provide courses that provide music majors with the necessary foundation for graduate study, teaching, performing, or other career-oriented goals.

Experiential Learning

Does teaching music or performing excite you? NAfME provides opportunities to learn how to engage students in the music room through their annual conference and performances, such as Battle of the Bands.

Footlighters

Calling all directors, producers, and artists! Footlighters assist FC’s theater productions by creating and decorating sets, costume design, AV, and much more as opening night nears.

International Travel with Chorus – Italy 2023

Each spring, Florida College’s chorus rehearses a performance to take on the road, singing sacred and secular music at distinguished venues. The chorus will tentatively travel to Italy in 2023.

Music Education Internship

Internships are a great way for students to connect with future employers while building skills for the workforce. Florida College’s reputation and alumni networking helps current students explore job opportunities.

Friends

Friends is a group of students talented in performing popular music. Performers are selected by audition each fall, with help from the administration. Friends represent FC at performances both on and off campus throughout the academic year. Friends typically embark on an extensive tour after the spring semester concludes.

Unplugged

The tight-knit, acoustic band Unplugged is one of Florida College’s newest performing ensembles. The band tours the country throughout the year as ambassadors for the college, while putting on a great show for Hutchinson Bell events!

I came in a pre-med major with a limited vocal background and left an accomplished vocalist with a BS in Music Ed. Though I didn't leave with a degree in theater, I got extensive experience from starring, helping, and co-directing in several musicals at FC. I have now been able to take on my high school's award-winning program confidently.
